US policy for Taiwan hasn’t changed despite Biden defense comment: official


A Biden administration formal has clarified that the extensive-held US policy on Taiwan has not truly adjusted, in an about-face immediately after President Biden proposed the United States would protect the island if it had been attacked.

In an job interview with ABC Information, Biden was asked about responses from other nations amid the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan.

He was exclusively requested to reply to reports China was telling Taiwan that the US’ handling of the withdrawal proved Washington could not be relied on to appear to its defense.

Biden mentioned there was a “fundamental difference” between the scenario in Afghanistan and Taiwan, South Korea and NATO.

A senior Biden administration official said on Thursday that US “policy with regard to Chinese-claimed Taiwan has not changed”.
