Missing ancient artifacts from Iraq seized in Norway

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Nearly 100 missing tablets and other archaeological objects from ancient Mesopotamia have been found in Norway and seized, law enforcement explained Friday.

Authorities mentioned they would now be examined to figure out their authenticity and build their provenance if achievable.

The Norwegian Countrywide Authority for Investigation and Prosecution of Economic and Environmental Crime said they ended up “objects of significance to the world-wide cultural heritage.”

The agency claimed it had “assisted the (asterisk)Norwegian) Ministry of Culture in a matter in which Iraqi authorities have described a massive number of ancient artifacts lacking which they suspect have been smuggled out of the region.”

“A substantial quantity of objects have been seized during the lookup, and a selection of witnesses interviewed,” the company identified as Oekokrim reported. “Our guidance is not an standard police investigation, but is restricted to locating the missing objects.”

The law enforcement didn’t say how or when the objects ended up in Norway. No additional particulars have been quickly readily available.
