Former Afghan president Ashraf Ghani defends fleeing country


The previous Afghan president, who fled the country and deserted his persons when the Taliban marched into Kabul, mentioned he ​made a run for it to “keep the guns silent.”

Ashraf Ghani mentioned he resolved to go away at the urging of palace security officers who feared his presence could spark “horrific avenue to road fighting” like Kabul observed throughout the civil war in the 1990s.​

I​n the tweet, penned in English, Ghani mentioned the time will occur to parse his steps of that day.
