Colombian migrant, her daughter, 11, found dead in desert


A Colombian female and her 11-12 months-old daughter had been identified lifeless in an Arizona desert amid scorching temperatures last month — abandoned by a human smuggler as they tried to make the perilous crossing into the US from Mexico, officers and experiences reported.

US Customs and Border Defense reported officers discovered the deceased mother and daughter, and a next baby who was still alive, on Aug. 25 soon after responding to a 911 get in touch with about a household of a few in distress on the Cocopah Reservation, close to Yuma, Ariz.

The Colombian Ministry of Overseas Relations confirmed the deaths of the mother and daughter, and reported their bodies confirmed no symptoms of violence, according to a forensic examiner.

The 2-12 months-old boy who was uncovered alive was placed in a centre for minors in California. The Office of Refugee Resettlement will retain the boy in its custody right up until he is placed with a relative both in the US or Colombia, authorities reported.
