An Arizona mom died right after her 5-calendar year-outdated son shot her in the chest with a handgun, law enforcement say.
Michele Cox, 38, was shot in their spouse and children household in Casa Grande, just south of Phoenix, on Friday.
The mother of 4 was airlifted to the clinic following struggling a solitary gunshot wound to her chest but she later succumbed to her injuries.
Casa Grande Police reported Cox’s four little ones, aged between 4 and 12 years, and her 40-12 months-old boyfriend had been all house at the time.
None of them had been hurt for the duration of the incident, authorities reported.
“Although this is an ongoing investigation, detectives have established the victim’s 5-calendar year-old son was responsible for the shooting,” a statement from law enforcement explained.
“Currently, detectives think this was an accidental taking pictures.”
A handgun was found at the scene.
Police famous the investigation was ongoing to “determine if any criminal offense did happen.”
“This is a stark reminder that proudly owning and safeguarding a firearm is a critical duty and need to be a priority in anyone’s house or business, primarily if children are present,” a police assertion claimed.
