Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is becoming criticized for her use of the phrase “menstruating persons” as she lashed out at Texas Gov. Greg Abbott more than his new six-7 days abortion ban.
The much-left New York congresswoman named Abbott “deeply ignorant” on Tuesday about the Lone Star State’s new law that prohibits virtually all abortions after the six-7 days mark — which includes pregnancies that are the final result of rape or incest.
“I never know if he is familiar with a menstruating person’s system. In simple fact, I do know that he’s not familiar with a female or menstruating person’s physique simply because if he did, he would know that you don’t have 6 weeks,” Ocasio-Cortez instructed CNN’s Anderson Cooper.
“I’m sorry we have to break down Biology 101 on national tv, but in situation no one has informed him right before in his existence, 6 weeks expecting means two weeks late for your interval,’” AOC ongoing.
“And two months late on your time period for any man or woman — any human being with a menstrual cycle — can transpire if you’re stressed, if your food plan adjustments or for actually no purpose at all. So you do not have six weeks.”
Her use of the phrase “menstruating persons” features transgender and non-binary folks who continue to have their durations.
Even so, the progressive Democrat quickly sparked criticism online from people mocking the woke phrase.
“HAHAHAHA. AOC just tripped around the lingo for a ‘menstruating woman’ with on CNN. Jumped from lady to feminine to person,” conservative radio host Erick Erickson tweeted.
“I just saw a clip of AOC referring to ‘a menstruating man or woman.’ It would destroy her to use the phrase ‘woman?’,” 1 Twitter person wrote.
“AOC and her ilk are, to set it mildly, silly. ‘Any menstruating particular person?’ Definitely? Adult men are not able to menstruate, AOC, no make a difference how considerably you wish it have been so. This science has been settled because time immemorial,” yet another tweeted.

AOC’s feedback came right after Abbott — who has been married to wife Cecilia for 40 years and has an adopted daughter — advised reporters just hrs earlier that women of all ages who experienced been raped had “at the very least 6 weeks” to get an abortion.
Abbott’s abortion regulation went into effect earlier this month just after the US Supreme Court docket did not act on an emergency request by civil liberties groups to block it.
The law bans virtually all abortions after a fetal heartbeat can be detected — which is all over the six-week mark of being pregnant.
This new law only grants exceptions for a “serious health-related emergency” in which the health care provider has to show the female could die or confront major bodily impairment if the abortion isn’t carried out.
The regulation includes exclusive authority for personal citizens to sue abortion providers and everyone concerned in facilitating abortions — these types of as driving a girl to a clinic — for at minimum $10,000, if successful.
