The Road towards Sustainability. Managing Risk and Grasping Global Opportunities in Partnership. Room: A
Social and environmental sustainability have been explored from a variety of angles during the conference. Have we reached a common understanding of the challenges and possible solutions? There is widespread agreement about the urgency of addressing climate change, and there is an emerging consensus that transparency, anti-corruption initiatives, progress on human rights and ensuring decent work are vital dimensions of a sustainable future. We seem to know where we want to go, and what obstacles we face along the way. But how do we get there? Business, as the primary engine of wealth creation, unquestionably has a key role in developing and implementing sustainable solutions. But business cannot solve all problems on its own. Sustainable solutions that unleash the power of cross-sector partnership through synergy between business, government and civil society must be found. This concluding session will summarise the conclusions of the conference in the form of the Oslo Agenda for Change, which will provide input at the fifteenth session of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development.
