Transparency and Anti-Corruption. Room: A
Bribery and corruption distorts rational decision making and undermines fairness, motivation and productivity. The last decade has seen a proliferation of voluntary and legally binding anti-corruption codes. There is substantial progress in the fight against corruption, but how do we proceed to embed the culture and practices of transparency into governments, corporations and NGOs worldwide? What can institutions and sectors do on their own, and when do we need multi-stakeholder processes like the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI)? How fast and far can business progress in the absence of globally enforced standards and remain competitive?
