Environment & Climate Friendly Business Action: Investments and Technology as Drivers for Change. Room: A
Climate change is probably the single most important environmental problem the world faces today. Scientists warn that small islands states could be flooded and their societies washed away; entire habitats could be destroyed and the world’s economy could go into the worst global recession in recent history. The message is clear: governments have no option but to tackle the problem head-on. Given that achieving global political consensus on emissions reductions will be extremely difficult, many are looking to the private sector for solutions. Will the early warnings stimulate a rush of investments in clean and low-emission technologies? Can we trust the private sector to deliver credible solutions to the problems? Or do we need bold government policies and public regulation? With emerging economies such as China, India and Brazil on the rise, what future energy and emissions scenarios can we expect in the future?
