Roundtable discussion: Government’s role in CSR. Room: A
The roundtable takes stock of the potential in joint government-business initiatives for governing the global economy. “The business case for CSR” is thoroughly debated and discussed. “The public policy case for CSR”, however, has received much less attention. In the wake of globalisation and deregulation, governments are seeking new methods and partners to promote sustainable development. New forms of governance have emerged to supplement traditional state-led and top-down regulation. Today, business plays a vital role in policy formation and implementation. The aim of this session is to explore this new landscape and to discuss the potential in joint government-business initiatives for governing the global economy: What is the public policy case for CSR? And how does the business case and the public policy case play together?
